Pen, Paper, and Novvler — Import Your Handwriting
There's a reason so many writers still reach for a notebook. No notifications. No cursor blinking impatiently. Just you, a pen, and the page. Ideas flow differently when your hand is moving across paper — looser, braver, less self-edited.
The problem has always been what happens next. You fill a notebook with brilliant scenes, raw dialogue, character sketches scrawled in the margins — and then you have to sit down and retype every word into a computer. That transcription step kills the momentum. It turns creative work into data entry.
Not anymore.
Snap, Import, Keep Writing
Novvler now has Import from Photo — a one-click way to turn your handwritten pages into editable text inside your manuscript. Here's how it works:
- Write with pen and paper. A notebook, a legal pad, index cards, napkins — whatever captures the moment.
- Take a photo. Open the editor toolbar in Novvler and click the 📷 button. Snap a picture of your handwriting or choose one from your camera roll.
- Let the AI read it. Novvler's vision AI transcribes your handwriting — preserving your words, your paragraphs, your flow.
- Review and insert. Preview the transcription, then drop it straight into your chapter with one click.
The transcribed text appears right where your cursor is. From there, it's part of your manuscript — edit it, expand it with AI, or keep writing from where you left off.
Your Flow Is Sacred
This feature exists because we believe the best writing happens when you're not thinking about tools. Sometimes that means a distraction-free digital editor. Sometimes that means a cabin, a pen, and a dog-eared notebook.
Novvler shouldn't force you to choose. Write however inspiration strikes — on paper at the coffee shop, on your phone during a commute, on your laptop at midnight. Import from Photo bridges the gap between analog and digital so nothing gets lost.
What About Messy Handwriting?
The AI does its best to interpret your writing, and it's surprisingly good — even with cursive, abbreviations, and the kind of shorthand only you can usually read. If a word is unclear, it makes its best guess. You'll always get a chance to review before inserting anything into your manuscript.
Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF, up to 10 MB.
How It Counts
Photo transcription uses your AI word allocation (Free: 2,000 words/month, Pro: 15,000 words/month). But here's the important part: transcribed words count as yours, not AI-generated. Because they are yours — the AI is just reading your handwriting, not writing for you. Your authorship stats stay honest.
Try It
Open app.novvler.com, navigate to any chapter or section, and look for the 📷 button in the editor toolbar. Write something by hand, take a photo, and watch your words appear on screen.
Pen and paper have been good enough for centuries. They're still good enough. Novvler just makes sure your handwritten pages don't stay trapped in a notebook.
Dive deep. Stay you.
