Novvler was born from a simple frustration: every novel writing tool either felt like a bloated word processor or an over-engineered project management app. Neither understood how novelists actually work.

Some writers plan everything — outlines, beat sheets, character bibles — before they type a single word of prose. Others fly by the seat of their pants, chasing the story wherever it leads. Most land somewhere in between, and where you land can change from chapter to chapter.

Novvler is built for all of it. Start with a blank page if that's how the words come, or lay down a full story structure first. Add characters, settings, and plot threads whenever they emerge — at the start, in the middle, or after the first draft is done. There's no "right" order. Structure is something you shape as you go, not something the tool imposes on you.

Every chapter, section, character, outline, and plot idea has a place — and you decide when each one earns it. Drag things around, nest scenes under chapters, track word counts at every level, and export your manuscript in one click. AI works alongside you when you want it, amplifying your voice while keeping your identity at the heart of the narrative.

AI that helps, not replaces

We believe AI should be a tool in the writer's kit — not the writer itself. Novvler's AI assistant helps you brainstorm, expand scenes, overcome writer's block, and check your grammar. But every word that makes it into your manuscript is your choice.

We're transparent about AI usage. You can see exactly how many AI words you've used, and native features like spellcheck work entirely offline — no AI credits needed.

Your writing & AI — what happens to your data

Here's exactly what happens when you use AI Assist:

  • Only the text you select (plus a small amount of surrounding context) is sent to the AI provider — never your entire manuscript.
  • The request is made server-to-server from our backend. Your writing never passes through a browser-based third-party script.
  • The AI provider processes the request and returns the result. API inputs and outputs are not used to train AI models.
  • The AI result is shown to you as a suggestion. Nothing is written into your manuscript until you explicitly accept it.
  • We track your AI word count (how many AI-generated words you've accepted) so you always know the ratio of your writing to AI-assisted text.

Features that don't require AI — spellcheck, word counts, outlining, manuscript export, and the entire editing experience — run entirely locally or on our own servers with no third-party data sharing involved.

In short: your novel stays yours. AI is a tool you invoke on demand, on your terms, and only on the text you choose.

Your data is stored securely on our database with row-level security. Only you can access your projects. We never share your writing with anyone.
